Don Pio
Donna Maria Suites, Palazzo Marigliano
Don Pio Marigliano del Monte, third son of Aniello and Ortensia Marigliano del Monte, was born in Naples in 1896. Like his older brother Francesco, he joined the military having attended the Naval Academy. At the age of twenty-one, during the Great War he was second lieutenant on a vessel and volunteered for the dangerous mission of demining the Leonardo da Vinci battleship of the Italian Royal Navy: He died heroically, and was therefore awarded with the gold medal for military value. In the entrance hall and along the eighteenth-century double flight staircase of the courtyard, it is possible to find commemorative plaques dedicated to him.
